Aspiring Musicians Program (AMP) in Detroit (Fall and Spring Semesters)

The Aspiring Musicians Program is for youth ages 9-17. The Pre-Aspiring Musicians Program (Pre-AMP) is for kids ages 7-8.

Classes for Pre-AMP, AMP (all instruments) and AMP music theory meet on Saturdays in the fall and spring semesters at the MSU Community School Detroit: 3408 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48201.

Pre-Aspiring Musicians Program classes are designed for children ages 7-8 as preparation for the AMP Program. These classes include all types of active music making and learning, including singing, moving, listening, improvisation, and performing on percussion and tonebar instruments. In addition, children begin to use solfege and learn to read and write music notation.

Aspiring Musicians Program:

This program for 9-17 year-old students provides one hour group lessons for flute, clarinet, trumpet, French horn, oboe, saxophone, trombone/baritone/tuba, percussion, piano, strings, and guitar. Lessons include ensemble playing, music theory, and music history. Beginners are accepted. Intermediate students have one or more years of experience.
