Early Childhood Music Classes at Community Music School-Detroit (Fall and Spring)

Early childhood music education exposes children to many different kinds of music and movement with a fun curriculum proven to enhance brain activity. The Community Music School-Detroit (CMS-D) offers several early childhood music classes, including:

Musical Building Blocks for Babes (birth-3 years) Saturdays, 9:00 am - 9:45 am

Musical Building Blocks for Babes is for children age birth-3 and their caregivers. Child/caregiver group sessions help children develop tonal and rhythmic awareness while building skills in physical, interpersonal and language domains.

Music Time for Tots (3-5 years) Saturdays, 10:00 am - 10:45 am

Music Time for Tots is for children ages 3-5 and their caregivers. Child/caregiver group sessions help children develop tonal and rhythmic awareness while building skills in physical, interpersonal and language domains.

Music Rocks! (5-7 years) Saturdays, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Music Rocks! is for children ages 5-7. The class includes all types of active music making and learning, including singing, listening, improvisation, and performance on percussion and tonebar instruments. The skills learned in Music Rocks! will help to prepare the students for instrumental study.

Singing Sprouts (6-8 years) Tuesdays, 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

This class provides children ages 6 to 8 with an introduction to proper vocal technique through vocal exercises and games. Children learn playful songs, scales, notes and practice remembering ascending or descending pitch through body signs.

Pre-Aspiring Music Program (Pre-AMP) (7-9 years) Saturdays, 10:00 am - 11:00 am, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Pre-Aspiring Musicians Program classes are designed for children ages 7-9 as preparation for the AMP Program. These classes include all types of active music-making and learning, including singing, moving, listening, improvisation, and performing on percussion and tonebar instruments. Additionally, children begin to use solfege (singing for ear traning) and learn to read and write musical notation.
