Five admissions executives share a behind-the-scenes view of the admissions process, offering the best advice for your pre-college students.

Allison Carter

Allison Carter, Director, Office of Admissions, Michigan Technological University

A proud Husky herself, Allison Carter began her career at Michigan Technological University as a regional recruiter in the Midwest and served as campus visit coordinator prior to being named director in 2006. She finds sharing the Michigan Tech story through engaging communications and programming for prospective students the most rewarding part of her days. When not at work she enjoys spending time with family, gardening, and exploring the Keweenaw Peninsula.

Jim Cotter

Jim Cotter, Director, Office of Admissions, Michigan State University

A graduate of Michigan State University, Jim Cotter has been a member of the Office of Admissions staff since 1984, when he started as an admissions counselor. He was appointed as director of admissions in September 2007. Known for his passionate presentations pertaining to the Spartan experience, Cotter is a well-recognized admissions professional around the State of Michigan and across the nation.

Jenifer Pahl

Jenifer Pahl, Director, Office of Admissions, Saginaw Valley State University

Jennifer Pahl currently serves as director of admissions at Saginaw Valley State University. She has worked at SVSU in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions since 2000 and became director in 2008. Pahlhas served on several enrollment management committees for the university regarding right sizing and the impact of future enrollments. She is also actively involved in the Great Lakes Bay region, serving on several community organizations and boards.

Deb Peffer

Deb Peffer, Director, Office of Admissions and Orientation, University of Michigan—Dearborn

Deb Peffer has worked in higher education for over 20 years as a coach, graphic designer, e-recruiter, associate director of admissions, and, for the past six years, as director of admissions and orientation at UM—Dearborn. Originally from Pennsylvania, Peffer worked at her alma maters, Allegheny College (B.A.) and Gannon University (M.P.A.) before making the move west to become a Wolverine. She's thrilled to participate in this year's conference and is passionate about promoting education to enhance the lives of individuals and communities. Go Blue!
