Application Deadline: May 2, 2019
This program is available to qualified students in grades 7-9 who are gifted in language arts/Latin.
ALL is a doubly accelerated Latin program for gifted students grades 7-9. In two years, the program completes the four years of Latin content assigned by the Michigan High School Content Expectations (HSCE). Each semester of Latin corresponds to a year of high school French. The ALL program emphasizes developing and refining two skills of language learning: reading and writing. Although Latin is no longer a spoken language, the course builds speaking and listening skills to aid student comprehension. Discussions in ALL are anchored in topics of Roman and medieval culture, conversations about linguistics, and Latin’s role in shaping the English language. Students take the National Latin Exam at the end of each year, and may elect to take AP Latin exam at the end of their second year. This is a hybrid course, meaning class is held both in person, on MSU’s campus, and online. Need-based scholarships are available.
